Hey all,

I'm getting ready to take delivery of my Backdraft Cobra from VMS in Connecticut. The build will be complete next month. Needing the "how to" on MD titling and registration. Thanks in advance.

I hope everyone is well.

Chris there are many threads/posts that have been discussed on this subject. Do a search and you’ll find a boat load of information and different experiences!
and congratulations on the Backdraft!

MVA is currently closed. Supposedly you can make appointments for some things. Only issue with new titling is if you want it to be titled as a 1965/6. Current procedures would be to title year of titling (year of frame), not year of replication.

Thanks for chiming in. I did come across threads/posts about registration from 2016. I was wondering if there are any new procedures/updates on the process.

I registered my car from Virginia to Maryland 2 years ago. My title was registered as a Ford 2-door Roadster. When I went to the MVA I kept my mouth shut and not volunteer any extra information. I was in and out within 20 minutes with street rod tags.

I essentially did the same thing as the VA database recognizes Superformance as a manufactured car. Get VA title first and then MD will issue you a MD title. Interestingly, I registered a BackDraft as a 1965 Replica which they pronounced "Rep Li Ca" of all things. Much depends upon the person at the desk. In both cases, I presented a title from another state.

I did just the opposite. Took my Maryland title to Virginia and now have a 1965 Factory (with antique plates). Go figure.

Virginia will title a replica as the year it replicates, even if you have a title from another state saying different. Maryland law will not allow a first time titled replica to be titled the year it replicates. Obviously there are always stories of folks who did something not in the law/procedures.

Success! I got the car registered as a STREET ROD. Easy process.

Although the car was built this year, my Certificate of Origin(MCO) was dated "1965". Got registered. Received new MD Title. No emissions required. Getting my vanity tags soon.

Congratulations Chris!
Now start driving and enjoy!

You obviously found an MVA that either didn't know the law or follow it. Law states that replicas are titled the year you built it, not the year it replicates. Interesting thing i found out that, again according to MVA procedures, once registared as a Street Rod, you can not register as Historic.
