Building a Coupe

Now that I have the open garage space for it, I'm seriously thinking about building a FFR Type 65 Coupe. There's a lot of experience here with FFR so I thought I'd start with a question with any tips and pointers about going through the sales and configuration process. I called them today but only got an answering machine, no call back yet. Any advice as I go through the process would be great. If I get past actually buying a kit I'll come back for more advice on building, recommendations for paint shops, etc . I'm looking at the Type R with the roll cage. I'd spec in the 2015 IRS w/3.55s and Wilwood brakes. It looks like it comes standard with one race seat and a harness. If I want to use my own seats and harnesses, will they deduct the standard one? Same for the gauges and things like that?

It has been 20 years since I ordered from FFR, but back then, they would deduct the cost of items that you did not order. The biggest complaint I heard about the Coupe is that the cabin gets hot, so some type of cabin/personal cooling will probably be a good thing.

The R coupe is very nice IF you are planning on racing it. If it is not going to be a dedicated track car, consider the regular coupe. You still get the full cage and rear cross bar but not as much side protection, which makes it easier to get in and out.

Track days are the plan. Not full on racing, but definitely to be used as a track car.

Actually the better recommendation might be to avoid any tracks that elders on :coolsmiley:

Another option if supercharging: Edelbrock has a coyote gen 2 based supercharged crate engine with ecm. Built from the ground up for supercharger.

And if your going to supercharge, maybe that 7.3l godzilla with supercharger needs a relook :coolsmiley:

If your going gen3 coyote, the Bullit and Mach 1 came with 480hp. There were a few HW changes and tune. They don't sell that version, but i highly recommend getting yours retuned for 93 octane gas. This should give you 480-500hp and wake up the engine below 4,000rpm. :burnout:

Doug, Have you visited FFCars.com. They have a section on Coupes.

I think a stock Coyote engine will have plenty of power for a 2000 lb coupe. Plus the reliability of the factory crate engine.

Doug, did you ever wonder why I have a Daytona coupe hood on my garage wall?

@InProcess Yes, I'll definitely get it tuned when I do get it.
@JWEHR That would be great, thank you! Yes, I'm having Stewart bring it. I wanted to plan to get it myself but they said now they have to charge me sales tax if I pick it up myself. So that makes it cheaper to have Stewart bring it right to me.
@Ripper Yup, I have found my way to FFCars and the Factory Five forum as well. There is an amazing amount of good information in both of them. And the detail some of those guys put in their build threads is incredible. I have been entertaining myself just reading some of the build threads.
@Scott Harrison I think you're right. The stock Coyote engine should have plenty of motivation for the car and I like the idea of the factory crate engine that comes with a pretty good warranty as well if I remember right. I do wonder why you have a Daytona coupe hood on your garage wall. I would love to hear that story...
