BIG LET DOWN !!

I all ready did write this thread on Face Book, and most of you must have see it so, for the benefit of those that have not seen it, here it is "verbatim" from Face Book.

"After waiting close to SEVEN MONTHS to get my Cobra back from BOWIE'S, I finally got it. Scott took me to Bowie's place to pick it up. When we got there, the front wheels were not mouted on the car, and Scott and I had to install the damn things. Then, upon inspecting the "fiberglass body work", which was good, I noticed that the pain job was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. There were swirl marks all over the body as well as small marks of what appeared as small bubbles of pain that burst leaving their mark. This could have been buffed out, however, Mr. Bowie decided it was not necessary. Who gives a shit, it was not his car, right??!! besides, he was paid already by my insurance co. The bottom line here is, I'm having my Cobra painted AGAIN, at of course a cost to me. Some of you would swear by Mr. Bowie, but not this CACC member. I will probably converse with my insurance co. to see what recourse I have. WARNING!!!! If you have to paint anything, DO NOT GO TO "AUTOMOTIVE EXPERIENCE" (BOWIE'S small business)

Hector,

Welcome to the club - you get to pick the name.

I paid a highly recommended firm, now in Green Cove Springs, 13K for what sounds like the same job.
After that I decided just to drive it. A lot less worry...

Tom

Sorry to hear that, if it can be buffed out I would try that first. I have a guy in front royal that does work for me from time to time and buffs really good with our newest products. In other word his work is fantastic, plus he would tell you up front if it's doable... let me know, was with him yesterday but he comes to Manassas when we need him, mostly on weekends. Doc

Tom, $13 K???!!! I kill for that amount, however, you have a point, it is not worth getting my insurance co involve with it, in something that would end up in a nasty litigation. I'm old and done with attorneys. If this guy that did this to my Cobra has a conscious, let it worry him.

DOC, You are too late, I took my Cobra to my good friend Peter Clifford, who is an excellent professional painter. He works at the Safford dealership body shop, in the Tysons area, and he will be re-painting my Cobra. He did paint his Cobra, and frankly, he did an outstanding "work of art", never the less, I would like to have the name and number of this friend of yours for future use. Thanks for thinking of me, and please, say hi to Mary Jo for me.

Hector, why don't you let Pete decide if the entire car needs repainting or just the problem areas on the fenders.

BTW, Olthoff's painter charged me about $8k for a repaint. Some bubbles surfaced in a month and I had to trailer it back down to get it sanded/buffed out.

My point being... I didn't have the whole car done again just to fix some issues.

Oh. I forgot. A couple of your old friends from Havana said they would be glad to paint your heap.
But...Some parts may be missing when you get it back.

As I posted on FB I had my mishap done at Stingrays on Herb Smiths recommendation . Even though they use a different paint system and paint the match was perfect. The price was the same as what Bowie quoted me. It was done on time.

I was also displeased after I received my car and had approached Bowie about fixing up a few obvious errors weeks later. He just threw it back on my plate and basically said fix it yourself. Then after more time in the right lighting I'd discovered more flaws in the bodywork.

That stinks. Its hard to find quality work. The small bubbles are "solvent pop" and can continue to show up for some time. Sounds like you found the right person for the respray. With any luck it will require minimal prep this time around.

That validates my inclination to paint my heap myself.... if the work is subpar, at least I can kick the painter's ass ;-)
