Crap, Doug, that sucks! What were the signs that something was amiss?
Your priorities are clearly misaligned. Perhaps an intervention from friends is in order?
If you give me some of your money; then, I could quit my job which would free up time for the autocross weekend. problem solved... that was easy...
No outward signs. I have one of those fancy Kirkham oil pans in which the oil baffle trap doors work SO well that even if you leave it overnight, several quarts of oil won't drain out of the pan. Says in the well inside the trap doors. Probably seals better than my valve cover gaskets do.
Anyway, the pan has a removable bottom (sealed with an o-ring, very nice setup), so I pulled it to drain the rest of the oil out and found the copper(?) fragments in the pan. Nothing stuck to the oil drain plug magnet.
Here's a guy who may be a good FE engine guy; I know he did a lot of them for Cobras 15++ years ago when he built my 521:

Thanks, that's interesting. I'll check him out. I have also used Simon at Tyson's Automotive Machine who did our 347 and whom Elder swears by. He's very meticulous and has done FE's as well.
I'm going to sit this one out and go in July instead. Have a great time.
Troy - Sunny weekend, little if any chance of rain, opportunity to enjoy a bit of racing and adult beverages with your friends - come on!!
What time do you plan on getting to the airport?
Seriously Troy - weather couldn't look any nicer this weekend.
Official results not up yet, but here were the first four on Saturday. Great weekend with some very fast cars on hand, including Stan Vann who made the trip up from South Carolina with his CM Caldwell. Martin Valent in the "slightly modified" black MR2 was unstoppable. Only Doug, John, Crunchy and I were on hand from CACC - which was too bad, since the weather was great and the course was fun both days. Hopefully more of you reprobates will make the trip in July.
FYI. Since the cobra was down, I drove the GT500. I re-set the gas mileage tracker before the runs on Sunday. Avg MPG across my runs was 3.5mpg.....
Here's Gary wrestling with the Lotus "green thing"...another one of his top 5 runs...
Here's Doug on one of his runs...
Me out for a sunday drive...
Here are the top 2 from the weekend. Ignore the couple of thrown cones. These guys were flawless and fast virtually every run. Exciting to watch...
Results are up -
