Hello All - Tim Welch here, new member

Better but Im still not getting it,, I will have to check my books to see if you should have a black ground wire going into the outside connector. I believe the gray wire is the tach signal wire, but could be wrong.. I thought Ken might speak up about that also.. who could believe Ken not speaking up.. Hello Kenny, hello

Not sure this is a compliment Doc :knuppel2:

Haven't work on one of these in a while. Connector shown has gray tach wire and red power wire. There is a second connector shown in first picture that comes from distributor that takes trigger signal to top of cap as well. I believe the procedures i provided are valid, but wire colors may be different. System should be self contained. Maybe Cobra Inc needs to work on this one

I think your right also Ken,, I just haven't had the time to really troubleshoot this... OK Tim, can you unplug the Orange connector or is it part of the Brown connector??? If it can be unplugged, unplug it and try starting the car . I can't see the make of that system, its upside down but Im having no luck reading what it is.. If it starts great, if not Oh well..

Just got out my book about cranks but no start...... your dist. is grounded by the housing to the intake, block... what ever.. Might be a bad ground or maybe as simple as " is the dist shaft turning" So after trying the connector idea just remove the Dist Cap and see if the rotor is turning...when you crank it over.. not that ford engines have a good life on Dist. gear... just another thought.. also said if you dont have enought elec jell uder the module that could do it.. It also talks about using a soldering iron to trigger the module but that is way above most peoples skills.. So, how many more days do we have to get this Cobra running before the big tow..

The above procedures are good (different wire colors), just start with steps 1and 2. Check for +12vdc at red wire with key in run and start positions. If no voltage start checking wiring from fuse box to distributor. If you do have +12vdc at dist, then check for -12vdc at gray tach wire. Using an old school needle voltmeter or simple probe light would work best. Easier to see with those than using digital voltmeter because changes in voltage reading on digital could be too fast to read.

If no blinking tach signal, then its internal to distributor and steps 3 and 4 need to be done.

If you do have +12volts at distributor and tach signal, then check coil and related wiring. I assume that you originally checked to see if plugs were getting spark, and they weren't.

Ok, I have been watching this thread. I think Doc and Ken are on the correct path. I had a very similar break down in 2019. It was very strange, just cruising and then the engine shut down. No strange noises, no warning. I assumed MSD box and it tested fine. I found I had no ground at distributor. Fixed that and no problems since.

I remember that, yes that simple but not that simple when in a parking lot. Thanks for jumping in Phil, Tim, Phil is another guy who know his stuff..
Phil, Hoping all is well with you guys and hope that we will be able to get together this year.

Gents, this has been entertaining & educational (but not enough to for me to delve into the ignition without adult supervision). Flatbed comes tomorrow. I'll keep you posted & look forward to meeting up soon.

Son of a gun,, the tow truck won... They should be able to find out what's wrong and let you know... They might even tell you to go back to F I.. lol But, please keep us updated so we can check what is going on... Now if they say its the dist. gear be sure to let us know ,I will tell you why if it come to that...

My 2 cents.

I have no experience with HEI ignitions, except hearing rumors it doesn't much care for heat. If it's a bad ground, I have no idea why it just suddenly stopped. If the wiring was bad, wouldn't it have exhibited itself before? I see "Blueprint Engines" spec the HEI for their 347 engines

One other thought, is it possible the roll pin in the dizzy broke? It happened to one of members in exactly the same circumstances.(With such low mileage, I doubt the dizzy gear has failed already, even if it's wrong one. If that's not it, get rid of that HEI dizzy. MSD ready-to-run has my vote.

Blueprint Engines says their HEI has a steel gear to go with their roller cam.) https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Blue...uryRcgNQi6NBiNJeTyYqLGqSJeIojQnkaAnv7EALw_wcB

Re CV joint boots: Impossible to get on without disassembling the shaft. Which is a PIA. If the half shafts are cheaper, just replace it.

Tim, my offer still stands!

Chris, sorry you‘re not getting it that easy.

Below, this morning, Deja Vu all over again. The most beautiful non-op car in Annapolis. Its at Gear One now. Watch this space. PS great thread, appreciate the generosity of input. Bottom line is you’ve collectively encouraged me to hang in when I was having some fairly dark thoughts about SPS-0034. For which I’m very grateful. Here‘s to many runs in the month ahead and first round is on me.

Nope - I gave them laundry list of items both drivetrain and rolling chassis. Maybe conversing with Hillbank.

Just off phone with Gear One. Simple as hell - broken rotor. Marcus suspects defective as rest of set up OK.

Hillbank replacing CV joint half boot.

I'll pick it up next week (leap of faith that it will get me back to Annapolis but gotta start somewhere!).

If all OK I'll bring to Annapolis C&C 3/14.

Broken rotor will certainly do it! Glad to hear it was something that simple. I hope it goes better for you now!

Ok, do you know about nicknames? It looks like your going to get one now.. I like "Rotor" but let's see what you end up with...But don't worry, you have NO say in the matter...

Already done!

BTW, this is the second time this month one of our members' cars stopped dead due to a broken rotor. Coincidence?
