Renting Shelby Cobra for ALS Patient

Dear club members,
Mu husband’s retirement dream has always been to build a Shelby Cobra. He (Chris) took classes and took copious notes so he can be ready when the time comes. Shortly after he retired he was diagnosed with ALS and his dream came to a screeching halt. That was three years ago. He is now in the latter stages of the disease and on home hospice care. For his 66th birthday August 12, I want to rent a Shelby Cobra to bring to our home on Sterling VA so he can see it, may be sit in it, listen to the engine, and just enjoy looking at it even for a short while. He cannot drive as he is completely disabled but I want to bring a bit of joy to him in his birthday by surprising him with his dream car, at the very least to look at. I am reaching out to you all to point me in the right direction on how I can make this happen. I know August 12 is right around the corner but I do believe in miracles and just the kindness of humans towards others who are going through a tough time. I appreciate any help you can suggest and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Souheir

There's several people in that area and I'm sure they would do it for FREE and offer a ride.

OMG that would be amazing! I can’t tell you all how much I appreciate this! Chris May be able to sit in the car but not sure about a ride. He cannot support his head anymore but we can certainly see if he would like to try. This means the world to our family and I am sure would brighten his day!

I want to add that I realize Monday 8/12 is a workday so the day before Sunday 8/11 is probably easier for anyone who is kind enough and is willing to help out with this request.

Should set up a time and place and see who can make it. Depends on time and day, but might want a backup time and day due to rain. Too early to tell, but shows Sunday might rain and Monday might be clear.

Your welcome. I was speaking of the generosity of the CACC group that other people may offer also. I would suggest working around Chris's schedule weather permitting.

Weather permitting I would join preferably on Sunday. What time? C'mon guys lets make a good show and get a lot of cars there.

I have reached out to Souheir offline and will coordinate with her. Chris's has mobility challenges and I think a smaller event would be more appreciated. If you would like to stay informed feel free to PM me directly. And I will report back after the event with pictures.

Today I had the opportunity to meet Chris, Souheir and their Family for Chris's 66 birthday. How would I describe the day, Well Chris summed it up best when he heard the Cobra come up the street "WOW". These cars mean different thing to different people. For me "She" means the opportunity to meet new friends and make memories. She performed exceptional today.image_50457089.JPG

Thank you so much Gary for making Chris’ birthday extra special. ALS has robbed him of most things but the excitement and emotion I saw today when he saw your beauty rolling into our neighborhood is something I have not seen in a very long time. Here’s to kind hearts and new friendships!

Sorry, I just saw your posts. I live in Burke and would be willing to swing by if you'd like. My brother has ALS also, so let me know if I can help. Thanks, Frank.

Hi Frank, thanks very much for the generous offer. I will ask Chris if he would like to see another beautiful car built with love. He gets tired and gets overwhelmed and anxious quickly is my only concern so I will let you know. I am sure you are familiar with those symptoms. I hope your brother is managing his ALS. It has been a nightmare for our family.

Thanks, let me know, and we'll come to visit you and Chris.
