I'm sorry to report that longtime CACC member, Herb Smith passed away Tuesday, October 24. I don't have any particulars of the funeral arrangements at this time. Although I'm out of town until next Tuesday, If I hear any further information, I will add it to this thread. And if anyone else get details earlier, please add them here.

Herb was a longtime CACC member. He kept a low profile, rarely posting on this forum. But he was a active, generous and helpful CACC participant. He is survived by his two sons Craig and Doug. All three are Cobra owners.

On a personal note, Herb has helped me with several of my Cobra issues, particularly those carburetor related. Annually he would trek to St Augustine, FL to help out another CACC member-Tom Wells sort out his mechanical issues. I know he has worked on Ken, Larry, and others' Cobras. He spent innumerable days prepping and wrenching on the 24 hours of Lemons race car. He was an accomplished Cobra driver, participating in open track events and auto crosses. Additionally he was a technical wizard from his days at AOL. He has spent days fixing my and my wife's computers.

Herb was a good friend, I will miss him.

My dear friend Herb, we all will miss you dearly. You were my good friend, you always had a good solution to any mechanical problems my Cobra had. Now God, will be happy to have you with him, so you can help him with his heavenly Cobra. My friend, may you rest in peace. See you some day.

Oh, no. So sad to read this. Herb was always willing to lend a hand and helped me on a number of cobra and trakrat issues. I will miss him.

Herb was a very special person. Successful, broadly talented, creative and most generous with his time and those talents. I considered him, a rock solid friend. Yup, he will be deeply missed but I am thankful for having known him.
To the family, I extend my deepest sympathy.

I got to meet Herb the first time few years back, during my engine rebuild. Stand up guy with a lot of knowledge he was always willing to share.
Rest In Peace, Herb. You are in good company with our previously departed friends.

Sorry to hear this. Herb had a great knowledge of these cars and great sense of adventure in the motor world, such as finding a project in a junk yard and turning it into a masterpiece and helping his son Doug build the sleeper wagon ("Grannymobile"). I miss those conversations with him while at Cumberland and at the VI. You will be missed. Godspeed Herb. Thoughts and prayers for Doug, Craig, and family.

Thank you for the kind words everyone. I'm sorry I hadn't had time to post about Dad's condition earlier. This all happened very fast and we were going full speed just to keep up. We are working on putting together a memorial service and targeting mid-November. If you're able to come we would love to see you all. Dad had a large and really fantastic group of friends.

Stay tuned for more information.

Thank you Herb for all of your input guiding advice, whether critical or humorous. I am saddened by this news but I am relieved that you are no longer suffering. My deepest condolences and thoughts to the family and close friends. Rest In Peace Sir, you will be missed as you have been this past year.
