Snickersville Turnpike Cruise - April 6

The weather is turning pleasant and the trees are blossoming. Time to kick the tires and light the fires. Anyone up for a scenic cruise capped by barbecue and ice cream?

Weather permitting, eyeing April 6 with a rain date of April 13.

This cruise starts out at the WalMart Supercenter in Leesburg, proceeds down HWY 15 to Gilberts Corner, then HWY 50 westbound to join the Snickersville Turnpike up to Bluemont, then HWY 7 into Purcellville for lunch at Monks. Total cruise time to Monks is about an hour.

Here's the route:

Agenda

10:15 - Meet up at the Walmart Supercenter, 19360 Compass Creek Parkway, Leesburg. (There's a Sunoco gas station adjacent to Wal Mart if you need to top off).

10:30 - Depart for the cruise

Here's an overview of the Snickersville Turnpike: https://www.loudounhistory.org/history/snickersville-turnpike/

11:30 - Arrive at Monks: https://monksq.com

If there's room for dessert, this place is next door:https://www.tippedcowcreamery.com

Disperse from there.

If interested, post your response on this thread for a head count. Thank you.

Thanks for setting this up. So glad to see newer members stepping up with cruises and ideas!

BTW, Any chance you could make a stop in Aldie? I'd rather meet there as Rte 15 is boring.

If we leave on time from WalMart, we should be cruising by Gilberts Corner Farmer's Market at 10:50. How about joining the cruise there - just roll into the cruise there as we pass. Would that work for those who want to join near Aldie?

The long range weather forecast calls for sunshine and 62 degrees for April 6th. So far so good. Will keep an eye on it.

So, the weather for Saturday is forecast to be overcast with a low of 38 and a high of 53. What say we put it off a week? The temp looks to be trending up for the following week. Let's plan for April 13, same times and location.

Sorry, I will not be able to join you. Son is finally moving out.

I’m in for April 13th and meeting up at the Farmers Market, Rocco.
Anybody doing a Cars and Coffee, VI, or Katie’s that morning?

The forecast looks pretty good for April 13th - sunny and a high of 67/low of 51.

Looking forward to it.

Forecast for Saturday is mostly sunny with a high of 64. It will be gusty - winds 22 to 24, with gusts up to 39 mph. Do we have a quorum for going, or delay another week?

Post here if you’re still intending to go and where you’re meeting - WalMart or Farmers Market.

I’m intending to go and starting from Wal Mart.

Thanks

On the fence with the windy forecast, Rocco.
Enclosed trailer for two hours in 40mph wind gusts is worse than a warm PBR!
Will post later today with my intentions.

Well, folks are dropping out and the weather seems less than optimal with high winds, cloud cover, and temps not getting into the 60s until late afternoon. Let's stick a fork in it for now. Next weekend does't look great either. Maybe we can get it done for the end of the month or early may. Stay tuned.
