Maryland requires a front plate, even for historic or street rod registrations. $75 fine !

Ken, please read below and let’s get this thread back to the Virginia guys.

A Maryland bill to allow only a single license plate to be issued to historic vehicles and street rods was signed into law by Governor Larry Hogan in early May 2015. ... Under the compromise bill, historic vehicles and street rods that are 50 years old and older are eligible to run a single plate.

I only have ‘street rod’ tags for the Cobra, don’t care about truck or daily.

If they issued you 2 plates, then your suppose to display them, however clarification is that it is ok to display front plate in a visibly accessible place, eg. dash.

Yes that is the legislation one would want in their glove box for when you get stopped, or if it didn't influence the cop, to take it with you to court. If it clearly says it's not required then they can't enforce laws that don't exist. If I find anything more I'll post it and I hope you all do the same! Thanks!

I guess I'm luckier than most, but I don't run a front license plate on my Cobra or Mustangs....

Actually, a front license plate bracket is really, really simple:

A piece of aluminum placed under the parking light socket with five holes and a couple of small offsetting bends.

I think I gave that one to someone when I moved to Florida. Don't ask me who - that was 17+ years ago...

I'd love to have that in my glove box, but you can rest assured that if you showed it to Barney, he'd find something else to ticket you for.

Reminds me of a story Christmas Eve about 1990 I got stopped in my '85 Mustang 5.0 by the state cops (different state) for speeding, and I was giving the guy a hard time about him giving tickets on Christmas Eve and so on, finally he says, "you don't have a front plate, would you like a ticket for that too?" I said "no thanks, I think I'm good with just the one." (Didn't get that second ticket, but it did shut me up.)
